About ZRect3D

ZRect3D is an open-source Command-Line Interface (CLI) application developed to automatically correct the ground-floor elevation of buildings in 3D city models. It processes CityJSON files by utilizing ground points derived from LiDAR data to enhance the vertical accuracy of urban models.

Purpose and Functionality: The primary purpose of ZRect3D is to address inaccuracies in the ground-floor elevations of buildings within 3D city models, especially those reconstructed from aerial LiDAR data where ground points around buildings may be sparse or absent. By integrating ground point data, the software adjusts building elevations to reflect true ground levels, thereby improving the precision of urban simulations and analyses.

Key Features:

  • Automated Elevation Correction: Adjusts building ground-floor elevations in CityJSON files based on available ground point data, ensuring models accurately represent real-world topography.
  • LiDAR Data Integration: Utilizes ground points extracted from LiDAR datasets to inform elevation adjustments, enhancing the reliability of the corrections.
  • Compatibility with GeoFlow: Designed to complement the GeoFlow tool, which reconstructs detailed 3D building models from point clouds, by refining elevation data post-reconstruction.
  • Efficient CLI Operation: Offers a streamlined command-line interface, facilitating integration into automated workflows and batch processing of multiple files.

Applications:

  • Urban Planning and Development: Provides planners and developers with accurate 3D models that reflect true ground elevations, aiding in the design and assessment of urban projects.
  • Geospatial Analysis: Enhances the precision of spatial analyses by ensuring building models align correctly with terrain data, benefiting studies in areas such as flood risk assessment and infrastructure management.
  • Digital Twin Creation: Supports the development of digital twins of urban environments with accurate elevation data, essential for simulations and monitoring.
